I went for a swim today and collided with a lady sharing my lane. Shocked and flustered I apologised, even though it wasn’t my fault. She just grunted and kept swimming. Three laps later I caught up with her whilst having a ‘breather’ in the deep end.
She looked at me, lifted her yellow swimming cap so she could quickly speak saying, “Sorry I bumped into you before, if I’d known you had a disability I would’ve been more careful!”. I gulped. Disability or not, being polite and careful is swimming etiquette! She put her goggles on and continued on her mission, oblivious to the impact of her words. She definitely lacked empathy, the ability to put herself in my flippers!
This is great Em. I love the last line!!!
