This morning I rolled into the pool before work  thinking it would be a nice sunny Melbourne day. Instead the fog was so thick I genuinely couldn’t see the end of the pool. And for once, my struggle to see wasn’t because of my vision.
As someone prone to getting chilblains and difficulty regulating my body temperature, packing these glamorous wetsuit booties for my feet was one of my better life decisions. It’s a 35 minute process of putting of wrapping my eye and squeezing into my wetsuit just to get into the water. It sometimes becomes very easy to focus on every barrier.

But today reminded me that sometimes we spend so much energy thinking about what makes something hard, we forget to focus on what makes it worthwhile.
The moment I got in the water, my hips softened, my pain eased and my body finally relaxed instead of fighting gravity. Even the thick fog became a gift as it reduced the glare and actually helped my vision.
Sometimes motivation isn’t about feeling excited. Sometimes it’s simply deciding the benefit matters more than the effort.
And today it was totally worth it.
