“Emma is able to convey the ” do with not for” message to us in a way no dusty document or clinical lecture can”.

“Emma was a keynote presenter in the 2010 Active Service Model workshops that Inner East Community Health Service and City of Boroondara conducted for their staff. Home and Community Care Services [HACC] for people with a disability or who are ageing are moving towards a model of service which promotes consumer autonomy and self management and Emma is an expert exponent of these principles. Emma presented her story to staff and Managers in a meaningful, accessible and powerful way which enabled our staff to see and feel the benefits of placing the consumer in the centre of our service delivery and care. Emma has a great sense of humour which enabled her messages to be conveyed in ways that resonated with staff. Emma , being an Occupational Therapist herself, also understands the pressures and challenges on service delivery staff and is able to provide a unique insight into the nexus between our service pressures and the overriding needs and concerns of our consumers. In a fast paced service world which focuses upon throughput and hard numbers it was a great pleasure to be able to hear from Emma why it is important and critical to step back and make sure our service delivery is person centred and a true partnership with consumers. Emma is able to convey the ” do with not for” message to us in a way no dusty document or clinical lecture can.”
